Inglis & Yankeetown

The cities of Inglis and Yankeetown, located on the Gulf Coast north of Citrus County in southern Levy County, are just 90 miles northwest of Tampa and 100 miles northwest of Orlando.  The beauty of the nature coast can be seen throughout the area and is the perfect place for any outdoor enthusiast.

The Waccasassa Bay Preserve State Park, which is accessible only by boat, is a 30,784 acre salt marsh dotted by wooded islands and is home to numerous rare, threatened, or endangered plant and animal species.  Some of those species include the West Indian manatee, the bald eagle, the American alligator, and the Florida black bear.  Wildlife viewing can be enjoyed from a canoe or while hiking on existing service roads.  Some of the best salt and freshwater fishing can be done in this area.

Withlacoochee Bay Trail, Felburn Park Trailhead and Inglis Island Trails offer a perfect opportunity for hiking, biking, rollerblading, horseback riding, bird watching or fishing.  Once a former lime rock mine, remnants of mining activity can still be seen here, including a 40 acre lake that was formed when limerock mining hit the freshwater aquifer.
